The Legacy of Col Coombes at CCP

Col Coombes' tenure as the Principal of CCP was marked by transformative leadership. His vision and commitment turned CCP into a beacon of learning in Pakistan. The walls of the college echo with tales of his passion for education and his love for Petaro. Even after his retirement and return to England, the connection remained unbroken – he named his house "The Petaro House," a testament to his enduring affection.


A Journey through Adversity: Col Coombes in WW2

Col Coombes' life was not only defined by his contributions to education but also marked by resilience in the face of adversity. During World War II, he became a prisoner of war, captured by the Japanese and held in a Japanese prison. The harrowing experience became a pivotal chapter in his life, shaping his character and fortitude.

The Banpong Express: Col Coombes' Memoir

Out of this tumultuous period emerged a remarkable memoir, "The Banpong Express," written by Col Coombes himself. The memoir chronicles his experiences during captivity, offering a poignant insight into the challenges faced by prisoners of war. Kazi Bahi took the initiative to reprint this invaluable piece of history, sharing it with fellow Petarians at a convention.

Discovering a Treasured Possession

Recently, a heartwarming discovery unfolded. A Petarian was fortunate enough to come across an original copy of "The Banpong Express." As the pages unfolded, it became evident that this might have been the very copy owned by Col Coombes. A small, original Christmas greeting card from 1948, handwritten by Ms Alice, Col Coombes' wife, added a personal touch to this cherished possession.
